(Wilmington, DE 19809) The New Castle County Division of Police has arrested 24-year-old Dhakayla Heath following a domestic incident in the community of Edgemoor Gardens. On Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 4:01 p.m. officers were dispatched to the unit block of Cannon Drive in reference to a domestic with a weapon. Prior to officers arriving it was reported that the suspect fled from the area in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim who reported that on February 16, 2023, Dhakayla Heath responded to her residence at which time there was an argument. During the incident, Dhakayla produced a handgun and fired multiple gunshots into the air. Dhakayla then pointed the handgun at the victim prior to fleeing.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Following additional investigative steps, Dhakayla was charged with one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of aggravated menacing, and one misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm within a safety zone. Dhakayla was later taken into custody by assisting officers and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters.

Dhakayla was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution after failing to post $27,000.00 cash bail.
