JOINT INVESTIGATION BY WPD, DSP, AND NCCPD LEADS TO APPREHENSION OF SIX SUSPECTS

(New Castle, DE 19720) On Thursday, December 28, 2023, officers with the Wilmington Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a blue Hyundai Elantra with Delaware registration plate 412505. The vehicle was reported stolen and was flagged for a shooting investigation that occurred on Highland Boulevard – New Castle on December 18, 2023. The vehicle fled at which point officers from the Wilmington Police Department and the Delaware State Police initiated a pursuit across the Delaware Memorial Bridge into New Jersey. Officers lost sight of the vehicle momentarily in New Jersey. A short time later, a carjacking was reported to the New Jersey State Police near exit 4 on the New Jersey Turnpike. The stolen Hyundai Elantra was located unoccupied near the area of the carjacking.

The vehicle stolen in the carjacking was identified as a silver Honda Accord with a New Jersey registration plate. The vehicle traveled back to Delaware and was located near the 800 block of N Pine Street – Wilmington. WPD, DSP, and NCCPD collaborated and responded to the area. Upon arrival, officers observed six suspects near the vehicle. Three of the suspects were observed entering the stolen Honda Accord and the three remaining suspects entered a red Kia. The Honda Accord attempted to flee but later crashed after a brief pursuit. All three suspects from the Honda Accord were apprehended. The suspects from the red Kia were also apprehended. In total, three firearms were located between both vehicles. One of the firearms was found on the person of a 14-year-old suspect.

The suspects in the Honda Accord were identified as a 14-year-old male from New Castle, 18-year-old Jaiden Scott of New Castle, and 18-year-old Baron Wilmer of Wilmington.

The suspects in the red Kia were identified as 18-year-old Ayden Drummond of Frankford, a 16-year-old male from Wilmington, and 18-year-old Amir Carr-Powell of Wilmington.

The 14-year-old from New Castle was charged by multiple agencies. For the Delaware State Police, he was charged with one felony count of disregarding a police officer signal, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. For NCCPD, he was charged with one felony count of possession of a deadly weapon (firearm), one felony count of carrying a concealed deadly weapon (firearm), one felony count of receiving stolen property, and one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree.

For his role in the original shooting that occurred on Highland Boulevard, he was charged with one felony count of assault in the first degree, one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of possession a firearm by a person prohibited, and six counts of reckless endangering in the first degree. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $205,000 cash bail.

18-year-old Jaiden Scott was charged by three agencies. For WPD, Scott was charged with one felony count of disregarding a police officer signal, one felony count of receiving stolen property, and multiple traffic violations. For DSP, Scott was charged with one felony count of disregarding a police officer signal, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, and multiple traffic violations. For NCCPD, Scott was charged with three felony counts of receiving stolen property, two felony counts of conspiracy in the second degree, one felony count of disregarding a police officer signal, and multiple traffic violations. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $30,250 cash bail.

18-year-old Baron Wilmer was charged by two agencies. For DSP, Wilmer was charged with one felony count of disregarding a police officer signal, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. For NCCPD, Wilmer was charged with one felony count of receiving stolen property and one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $9,000 unsecured bail.

18-year-old Ayden Drummond was charged by NCCPD with one felony count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, one felony count of possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, and one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $22,000 cash bail.

The 16-year-old male from New Castle was charged by NCCPD with one felony count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, one felony count of possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, and one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $12,000 cash bail.

18-year-old Amir Carr-Powell was charged by NCCPD with one felony count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, one felony count of possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, and one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $12,000 cash bail.

The carjacking incident on the New Jersey Turnpike is currently being investigated by the New Jersey State Police. The investigation in Delaware is active and ongoing.
