New Castle County Police Arrest Suspect in Theft Investigation

The New Castle County Division of Police apprehended 22-year-old Peter Brown of Newark following an investigation into a string of vehicle break-ins and a motor vehicle theft.

On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Officers responded to a call about a motor vehicle theft in the unit block of Quince Drive in Newark. While investigating the incident, they discovered the stolen vehicle parked at a local business on Salem Church Road. The stolen vehicle was processed for evidence and returned to the owner.

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, Officers responded to the 2000 block of Cleveland Avenue in Claymont after receiving reports of multiple vehicles broken into overnight and property taken from the cars.  

Through investigative techniques, Officers identified Peter Brown as the primary suspect. On the evening of July 4, 2024, he was located and arrested on Salem Church Road, where he was found with property stolen from incidents on Cleveland Avenue and Quince Drive.

Peter Brown was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Two felony counts of theft under $1500, where the victim is 62 or older.
  • One felony count of theft of a motor vehicle.
  • One misdemeanor count of theft under $1500.
  • One misdemeanor count of attempt to commit theft under $1500.

Peter Brown was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.

NCCPD RESPONSE TO USE OF FORCE INCIDENT

The New Castle Division of Police is aware of a video circulating regarding a use-of-force incident between a citizen and our officers. The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 29, 2024, at the Royal Farms on Pulaski Highway.

As indicated, this investigation remains active and ongoing with the Division’s Use of Force Review Unit, the Professional Standards Unit, and the Delaware Department of Justice, Office of Civil Rights and Public Trust.

Drug Investigation Leads to Arrest and Seizure in New Castle

(New Castle, De. 19720) Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Safe Streets Task Force and Mobile Enforcement Team have charged 24-year-old Damion Thomas of New Castle following an investigation into drug dealing. The investigation, launched in June 2024, targeted drug distribution in New Castle County and identified Damion Thomas as the suspect through investigative methods.

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Damion Thomas was located, and a search warrant was approved and executed at his residence in the 100 block of Louise Road in New Castle. The investigation resulted in the seizure of 212 grams of crack cocaine, 1.03 grams of heroin (148 baggies), 926 grams of marijuana, a .22 caliber revolver with ammunition, and over $2,700 in suspected drug proceeds.

Damion Thomas was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Two felony counts of manufacture/deliver/possession of a controlled substance Tier 3.
  • Two felony counts of manufacture/deliver/possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
  • Two felony counts possess controlled substance tier 1.
  • One felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • One felony count of possession, purchase, own, or control of a firearm/destructive weapon If previously convicted.
  • One felony count of possession, purchase, own, or control of a firearm/ammunition If previously convicted
  • One felony count of semi-auto/auto weapon prohibited and controlled substance.
  • One misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia.

Damion Thomas was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $96,075.00 cash bail.
