DETECTIVES FROM THE SAFE STREETS TASK FORCE MAKE GUN AND DRUG ARREST.

(Newark, DE 19702) Detectives from the Safe Streets Task Force of the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 37-year-old Joseph McCarthy from Newark on multiple felony charges following a drug sales investigation.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, around 2:30 p.m., Detectives contacted Joseph McCarthy as he was leaving a business in Bear. During this encounter, Joseph McCarthy was found in possession of Xanax and amphetamine pills. Later that day, detectives executed an administrative search warrant at his home on the 200 block of Holly Cove Lane in Newark, uncovering multiple firearms and large-capacity magazines.

Joseph McCarthy was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Ten felony counts of possession and purchase of a deadly weapon by persons prohibited.
  • One felony count of possession of large-capacity magazines.
  • One felony count of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.
  • One misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.

Joseph McCarthy was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional on a Violation of Probation.
