SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CLAYMONT STORAGE UNIT BURGLARIES

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 44-year-old Giovanni Silvestri of Aston, PA, in connection with a series of storage unit burglaries.

Between July and October 2024, Detectives investigated several burglaries targeting storage units on Ridge Road and Hickman Road in Claymont. Through their investigative efforts, they identified Giovanni Silvestri as the suspect. On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, with assistance from the Aston Police Department, a search warrant was obtained and executed at a residence on the unit block of West 7th Street in Marcus Hook, PA, where Silvestri was located and arrested.

Silvestri was taken to a holding facility in Pennsylvania, where he is awaiting extradition to Delaware. Once transferred, he will be arraigned on the following charges:

  • Five felony counts of burglary third-degree
  • Two felony counts of theft $1500 or greater
  • One felony count of possession of a firearm by a person is prohibited.
  • One felony count of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony.
  • One felony count of attempt to commit burglary third-degree.
  • One felony count of theft of a firearm.
  • One felony count of theft under $1500 where the victim is 62 or older.
  • One felony count of conspiracy second-degree
  • Four misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief under $1000
  • Two misdemeanor counts of theft under $1500
