(Middletown, DE. 19709) On Saturday, August 2, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m., Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Police Department’s B-Squad responded to the intersection of Astaire Place and Stravinsky Avenue in The Village of Bayberry South for a report of a suspicious vehicle.
Upon arrival, Officers located a 2024 Kia Forte that had been stolen overnight from another residence within the Village of Bayberry South neighborhood.
While Officers were investigating the recovery of the stolen Kia Forte, a second call was received from the 2500 block of Chopin Drive, also in The Village of Bayberry South. The caller reported that a suspect had just broken a window on a 2015 Kia Soul and was actively attempting to steal the vehicle.
Officers quickly responded and observed the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Ni’yione Carter of New Castle, seated in the driver’s seat of the Kia Soul. Carter was wearing a surgical mask in an apparent attempt to conceal his identity and was still holding a screwdriver when officers approached. He was immediately taken into custody without further incident.
While processing the scene, officers found a credit card belonging to the owner of the previously recovered Kia Forte near the location where Carter was arrested in the Kia Soul.
Ni’yione Carter was transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:
- One felony count of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony.
- One felony count of possession of burglar tools.
- One felony count of attempt to commit theft of a motor vehicle.
- One misdemeanor count of criminal mischief over $1000 but less than $5000.
Ni’yione Carter was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $4,500.00 in unsecured bail.
