Reunion Event-Nemours

On Thursday, August 21, 2025, Officers from across the Division, along with New Castle County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police, were invited to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington for a special reunion celebrating the release of 10-year-old Trey Harrison after four months of treatment. Since his arrival on Sunday, March 30, 2025, Trey has undergone extensive care, shown remarkable strength and perseverance while receiving outstanding treatment from the staff at Nemours.

On the evening of March 30, Officer Drew Johnson was involved in a traffic accident on Route 273 in Newark, which involved a vehicle with Trey as a passenger. Officer Johnson became trapped in his patrol Tahoe, but Officer First Class Michael Merrill arrived within seconds and assisted in safely freeing him.

Once freed from the vehicle, Officers Johnson and Merrill saw that an individual had been ejected onto the roadway. They immediately rushed to Trey and began administering emergency medical care. Recognizing the severity of his injuries, they applied multiple tourniquets to control blood loss and provided basic lifesaving treatment until New Castle County Paramedics arrived to take over with advanced care. Trey was then transported by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to Nemours Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

At the reunion, Trey and his family had the opportunity to meet the officers and paramedics who were directly involved on the day of the accident, including Officer Drew Johnson, Officer First Class Michael Merrill, and Paramedic Sgt. Bryan Florian, Paramedic Isabel Troise, and Trooper Medic Michael Kim. Trey was thrilled to finally meet them, and the officers and paramedics were equally excited to see him reach the milestone of going home.

As he was leaving, Officers Johnson and Merrill guided him out the front door, where he was greeted by two of our Mounted Unit Clydesdales, Wrangler and Seahawk!

We wish Trey continued strength and a speedy recovery and are grateful to have celebrated this milestone with him and his family.
