(New Castle, DE 19720) On Monday October 20, 2025, at 4:30 a.m. patrol officers responded to the area of New Castle Avenue and Ryan Avenue in reference to conducting property checks. While in the area, officers located two Kias that had broken windows and damaged steering columns. Officers continued to check the surrounding communities and located 3 individuals walking down the middle of the road. The individuals were contacted and identified as a 17-year-old male from Wilmington, 19-year-old Ahjir Black of Wilmington, and 18-year-old Ahmaj Boyd of Wilmington. Officers discovered that the individuals already had active no contact orders with each other from a previous arrest and were also wanted on multiple capiases. They were then taken into custody without incident and transported to NCCPD headquarters. Officers conducted interviews, reviewed surveillance footage and were able to link the group to four separate attempted vehicle thefts in the area.
Ahjir Black (19) of Wilmington was charged with 1 felony count of noncompliance with bail conditions, 4 felony counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, 4 counts of conspiracy in the second degree, 4 misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, and 1 misdemeanor count of theft under $1,500. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $18,900 secured bail.
Ahmaj Boyd (18) of Wilmington was charged with 1 felony count of noncompliance with bail conditions, 4 felony counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, 4 counts of conspiracy in the second degree, 4 misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, and 1 misdemeanor count of theft under $1,500. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $18,900 secured bail.
The 17-year-old male from Wilmington was charged with 4 felony counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, 4 counts of conspiracy in the second degree, 4 misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, and 1 misdemeanor count of theft under $1,500. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $16,950 secured bail.
