COLD CASE HOMICIDE: DAMETRIUS BENSON (2019)

Investigation Details:

On January 24, 2019, at approximately 6:36 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Police Department responded to Jacqueline Drive in the Brandywine Apartments community following reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found 17-year-old Dametrius Benson suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life-saving efforts, and he was transported by emergency medical services to a local hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

LONG-TERM MISSING PERSON – COLD CASE REVIEW: RISHA LEWIS (2006)

Risha Lewis was reported missing on January 23, 2006, from her home at 467 Morehouse Drive in New Castle. Risha went missing sometime between January 20th and January 23, 2006. She has not been seen or heard from since.

FLEEING VEHICLE AND FALSE REPORTING LEAD TO TWO ARRESTS

(Newark, DE 19702) On Sunday, January 11, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m., an Officer with the New Castle County Division of Police observed a white Chevrolet Cruze commit a traffic violation in the area of Smalleys Dam Road. When the Officer activated the emergency lights on their fully marked New Castle County Police vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop and fled, committing several additional traffic violations. The vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on Route 1 before the officer lost sight of it.

During their investigation, Officers identified the driver involved in the incident as 19-year-old Ironn Collins-Demby of Wilmington. During the follow-up investigation, Officers also contacted 19-year-old Mikayla Munson of Newark, who knowingly provided false information to Officers by reporting the vehicle as stolen just minutes before it was observed committing multiple traffic violations. The vehicle, which had been falsely reported stolen, was recovered the following day in the City of Wilmington. Further investigation revealed that Munson was a passenger in the vehicle while it fled from NCCPD officers.

Mikayla Munson was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where she was charged with the following offenses:

  • One felony count of Providing a False Statement to Law Enforcement
  • One felony count of Hindering Prosecution
  • One misdemeanor count of Falsely Reporting an Alleged Incident to Law Enforcement

Mikayla Munson was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $ 5,000.00 unsecured bail.

On Saturday, January 17, 2026, Ironn Collins-Demby was located by the Delaware State Police in connection with an unrelated incident and arraigned on the following offenses stemming from an incident involving the New Castle County Police.

  • One felony count of Reckless Endangerment First Degree
  • One felony count of Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
  • One misdemeanor count of Aggressive Driving
  • One misdemeanor count of Reckless Driving
  • One misdemeanor count of Driving Without a Valid License
  • One violation of Following a Motor Vehicle Too Closely
  • One violation of Failure to Stop at a Red Light
  • One violation of Improper Lane Change
  • One violation of Moving a Vehicle Without Giving a Proper Signal
  • One violation of Vehicle Obstructing Traffic
  • One violation of Turning at an Intersection Other Than Directed
  • One violation of Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign

Collins-Demby was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $5,208.00 cash bail.
