(Wilmington, DE 19809) — On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at approximately 8:24 p.m., detectives assigned to the Active Crime Trends Team were conducting proactive patrols in the Edgemoor Gardens community when they observed a male committing a pedestrian violation.

Detectives stopped the male on Salisbury Drive and identified him as a 17-year-old juvenile. During the investigation, probable cause was developed, leading to the recovery of approximately 80 grams of marijuana and a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine from inside a backpack the juvenile was carrying.

Further investigation determined that the juvenile was prohibited from possessing or carrying a firearm due to previous felony convictions.

The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:

• Two felony counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
• One felony count of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under 21
• One felony count of Possession of a Large-Capacity Magazine
• One felony count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• One felony count of Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
• One felony count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
• One misdemeanor count of Possession of Marijuana Other Than a Personal Use Quantity
• One misdemeanor count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• One violation of Failure to Carry a Light on a Public Roadway
• One violation of Pedestrian on a Roadway When a Sidewalk Is Available
• One civil violation of Possession of a Large-Capacity Magazine

The 17-year-old juvenile was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to a juvenile detention center after failing to post $86,002 cash bail.
