(New Castle, DE 19720) On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at approximately 2:08 a.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the unit block of Rose Lane in the community of Rosegate after receiving multiple reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a residence had been struck by gunfire and that an 81-year-old female inside the residence had suffered a gunshot wound to her lower body. Officers immediately rendered medical assistance until emergency medical personnel arrived. The female was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. She is currently listed in stable condition.

Officers also located an unoccupied vehicle parked on the street that had been struck by gunfire.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit were notified, responded to the scene, and assumed the investigation.
