JUVENILE ARRESTED, STOLEN HANDGUN RECOVERED IN CLAYMONT

Claymont, DE 19703 – On Friday, October 23, 2026, at approximately 7:55 a.m., officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the 900 block of Cedartree Lane in the Woodacre Apartments community for a report of a person with a gun.

Upon arrival, officers learned that several individuals had been involved in a verbal altercation in the apartment complex courtyard. During the altercation, a suspect, later identified as a 17-year-old male from Claymont, allegedly brandished a handgun equipped with a green laser and pointed it at multiple victims.

Officers also learned that, before the altercation, a green laser dot had reportedly been seen in the apartment complex, possibly coming from one of the apartments.

Through further investigation, officers identified the juvenile’s apartment and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun equipped with a laser attachment. Officers determined that the handgun had been reported stolen in July 2026 and linked the juvenile to the original theft of the firearm.

The juvenile was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with the following offenses:

• Three felony counts of Aggravated Menacing
• One felony count of Theft of a Firearm
• One felony count of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under 21
• One felony count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

The juvenile was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to a juvenile detention center after failing to post $45,500 secured bail.
