(Newark, 19701) The New Castle County Division of Police has arrested 30-year-old Austin Shannon for multiple felony charges following an investigation. On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to the area of Airdrie Drive in the community of Clairborne at Lexington Farms for a report of a person with a gun.
Upon arrival, Officers were able to quickly locate the suspect, who was identified as Austin Shannon and detained him. Upon further investigation, the officers learned that the subject, Austin Shannon, was waving the firearm around at people which caused them to fear for their safety. A search warrant was later obtained, and a handgun was located in Austin Shannon’s vehicle.
Austin Shannon was charged with one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one felony count of carrying a concealed deadly weapon a firearm, two felony counts of aggravated menacing, one felony count possession of a semi-automatic weapon and at the same time, possesses a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of terroristic threatening.
Austin Shannon was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $76,500.00, cash bail.
(Wilmington, DE 19808) The New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit is currently investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred near 405 McKennans Church Road. On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at approximately 10:26 p.m., patrol officers responded to the area for a single vehicle roll over crash with one ejected and one entrapped.
Upon arrival patrol officers observed one occupant trapped in the vehicle, and the other occupant was located nearby in the grass. Arriving medical personnel were able to extract the driver from the vehicle and then both occupants were transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Detectives from the Division’s Traffic Services Unit later arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation. This remains an active case; additional information will be provided when it becomes available.
