LONG-TERM MISSING PERSON – COLD CASE REVIEW: CARY SUE HUIE (1998)

Cary Sue Huie was reported missing on February 20, 1998, from New Castle, Delaware. She was last seen on January 20, 1998, when she reportedly left home to visit family in North Carolina. She never arrived and has not been seen or heard from since. She may also be known as Sue Shields Huie.

DETECTIVES ARREST THREE FOR PALADIN CLUB APARTMENTS SHOOTING

(Wilmington, DE 19802) On Monday, January 12, 2026, at approximately 9:16 p.m., Officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a report of a shooting in progress in the 8600 block of Park Court at the Paladin Club Apartments.

Officers learned that an altercation occurred outside the apartment complex, during which gunfire struck a 15-year-old female, and debris from the incident caused a minor injury to a 44-year-old female. The 15-year-old female sustained a gunshot wound to her lower body. Responding Officers immediately rendered medical aid until New Castle County Paramedics arrived. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and released. The 44-year-old female was evaluated at a local hospital as a precaution and later released.

During the incident, a 16-year-old male was also in the area and fled following the altercation; however, he was located later and found to be uninjured.

Detectives from the Division’s Major Crimes and Evidence Detection Units responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Detectives were able to identify 18-year-old Tristan Miller of Newark, 19-year-old Jhanir Fair-Cook of Wilmington, and a 15-year-old male from New Castle as the suspects involved in the shooting. On January 28, the Division’s Crisis Management Group located the suspects at their respective residences and took them into custody without incident. All three were transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters.

Detectives charged Tristan Miller with the following:

  • Two Counts of Assault First Degree
  • Two Counts of Reckless Endangering First Degree
  • One Count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • One Count of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • One Count of Conspiracy Second Degree

Miller was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $54,000 secured bond.

Detectives charged Jhanir Fair-Cook with the following:

  • Two Counts of Assault First Degree
  • Two Counts of Reckless Endangering First Degree
  • One Count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • One Count of Conspiracy Second Degree

Fair-Cook was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $55,000 secured bond.

Detectives charged the 15-year-old male with the following:

  • Two Counts of Assault First Degree
  • Two Counts of Reckless Endangering First Degree
  • One Count of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under 21
  • One Count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • One Count of Conspiracy Second Degree

The 15-year-old was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to a juvenile detention center in lieu of $64,999.97 bail.
