Mailboxes Vandalized, Police Make Arrest

New Castle County Police have arrested 19 year-old Scott Smith of the unit block of Violette Dr for criminal mischief to mailboxes in the community of Timber Farms.

(Newark, Del. 19702) Saturday (January 6) at approximately 11: 40 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 500 block of W Hummock Ln for the report of a criminal mischief in progress.

Police learned that two subjects were observed damaging a mailbox and then fled in a black Mazda. Through the course of the investigation, police learned that an additional mailbox in the unit block of W Hummock Ln was also damaged.  Police located the Mazda in the community of Springfield and initiated a traffic stop. Scott Smith was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. Evidence located on scene further implicated him in the crimes.

Scott Smith was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief, attempted criminal mischief and underage possession of alcohol. He was arraigned and released on $500.00 unsecured bond and issued a no contact order.
