FIREARM FRIDAY

(New Castle, De 19720) In an effort to bring attention to the numerous gun arrests that are made by the New Castle County Division of Police, we bring you Firearm Friday.  These postings will encompass a selection of the firearm arrests made by our officers during the previous week.  

(Wilmington, DE 19802) Last Wednesday (Aug 4) Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police Mobile Enforcement Team were on patrol in the area of Edgemoor and able to stop a black Chevrolet Malibu displaying a fictitious Pennsylvania registration.  The officers then contacted the driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Hezakye York.  A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Beretta 9mm handgun, and 71 grams of Marijuana. 

York was taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters where he was charged with one count felony Possession of a Weapon by Person Prohibited, one count felony Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Firearm), one count misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana and the following traffic offenses: Driving with an Expired License, Failure to have Insurance, Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Fictitious Registration Number Plate.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $15,500 cash bail.

Hezakye York

(Newark, DE 19702) Also on last Wednesday (Aug 4), officers from the New Castle County Division of Police assigned to the Safe Streets Task Force conducted a home visit for a probationer.  When they entered the apartment on the unit block of 2800 Stone Place, in the community of the Village of Kent Apartments, they noticed an odor of marijuana.  During a search of the residence a black 9mm Taurus handgun was located along with 154 grams of Marijuana, edibles, and packaging materials.  The officers then took 31-year-old Latigra Rawls into custody and transported her to New Castle County Police Headquarters.  There she was charged with one count felony Possession of a Weapon by Person Prohibited, one count of felony Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, and one count misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $8000 cash bail.

Latigra Rawls

 (Wilmington, DE 19804) Yesterday (Aug 5), officers from the New Castle County Division of Police assigned to the Safe Streets Task Force conducted a home visit for a juvenile probationer.  During the search of the residence, a loaded Glock Handgun (reported stolen) and 7.16 grams of marijuana were located in the juvenile’s bedroom.  The search of the residence also revealed 420 grams of THC wax, 374 grams of edibles, 159 Vape Cartridges, a Ruger handgun, and over 300 rounds of ammunition. 

The juvenile, and two other occupants of the residence, 40-year-old Loreen Majewski, and 33-year-old Lavar Thompson were all taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters.

 The juvenile was charged with one count of felony Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Juvenile), one count of felony Receiving a Stolen Firearm, and one count of misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.

He/she was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and held on $6600 secured bail.

Loreen Majewski was charged with one count felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, one count of felony Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, one count Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, one count of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 1 Qty, and one count of felony Conspiracy 2nd.

She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $24,000 cash bail.

Lavar Thompson was charged with one count felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, one count of felony Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, one count Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited, (previous conviction) one count of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 1 Qty, and one count of felony Conspiracy 2nd.

He was also arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $29,000 cash bail.
