(Claymont, DE 19703) Last Friday (Aug 6) at approximately 1:30 p.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Hillside Pointe Apartments for the report of gunshots being fired.  When the officers arrived, they were able to determine that the scene was in front of building “P”. 

The officers determined that no buildings or persons were struck by the bullets however, two vehicles in the parking lot were damaged by the gunfire.  Witnesses at the scene reported that a light blue minivan was parked in the area playing loud music at the time of the incident.  The officers were then able to obtain video surveillance of the scene.  After viewing the footage, the officers learned that a black sedan and the blue minivan fled the area by way of Philadelphia Pike just before the calls to 911 were received.

On this same date at approximately 6:00 p.m. troopers from the Delaware State Police were dispatched to another report of gunshots being fired at the intersection of Philadelphia Pike and I-495.  Witnesses reported to the troopers that a black sedan was involved, and the troopers were able to confirm that it was the same sedan featured in the surveillance footage obtained by NCCPD officers. 

A broadcast was sent out to agencies in the surrounding area in reference to the black sedan involved in the shots fired incidents and the vehicle was stopped in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania by Trainor PD. The driver was identified as 39-year-old Christopher Burgos. At that point, officers lacked enough evidence to charge Burgos with a crime, but he was established as a suspect in all of the shots fired incidents.

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigation Unit assumed the investigation and yesterday (Aug 12) sufficient evidence was obtained for a search warrant at Burgos’ residence. 

During the execution of the search warrant, Christopher Burgos was taken into custody at his residence.  He was transported to NCCPD/ HQ and charged with two counts of felony Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, two counts of misdemeanor Criminal Mischief, and two counts of violating New Castle County Code, Discharge of a Firearm in a Safety Zone.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $20,202 cash bail.
