VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO ARREST OF NEWARK MAN FOR FIREARM AND DRUG CHARGES – JASON BROWN (40)

(Newark, DE 19702) On Sunday, December 4, 2022, at approximately 07:30 AM officers from the New Castle County Division of Police Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) were conducting proactive patrol. While near the area of Churchmans Road and Goodings Drive officers observed a blue Chevrolet Equinox driving in the wrong direction on the shoulder. The driver of the vehicle then committed additional traffic violations at which time a vehicle stop was conducted.

Officers approached the vehicle at which time the driver exited with drug paraphernalia in his possession. The driver was detained and identified as 40-year-old Jason Brown of Newark. A search of his person was conducted at which time officers located methamphetamine and one bag of heroin. While officers were searching Brown a firearm was observed inside his vehicle on the passenger floorboard. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and officers located a loaded 9mm handgun, 1, 411 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 99 rounds of shotgun ammunition, 52 rounds of 410 gauge ammunition, 415 rounds of .22 ammunition, and one round of .357 ammunition. Brown was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters.

Jason Brown was charged with five felony counts of possession/purchase/own or control of a firearm/ammo by a person prohibited, one felony count of possession of a semi-auto/auto weapon prohibited and controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled/counterfeit substance, one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia not related to personal use, and multiple traffic offenses.

Brown was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution on $13,204.00 secured bail.
