NEW CASTLE MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION INTO MULTIPLE ARMED CARJACKINGS – DYMIRR ELLERBE (22)

(New Castle, DE 19720) Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 22-year-old Dymirr Ellerbe following an investigation into multiple armed carjackings. On Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 05:00 a.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 9000 block of Picasso Court – Newark in reference to a carjacking that just occurred. Upon arrival at the scene, officers contacted the victim. The victim reported he returned home from work at which time he was approached by a black male suspect in the parking lot. The suspect was armed with a handgun and forced the victim out of his vehicle while demanding his cell phone and wallet. The victim’s vehicle was later located unoccupied in an overflow parking lot.

On Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 5:25 a.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Sandburg Place – Newark in reference to a carjacking that just occurred. Officers arrived at the scene and contacted two victims. The victims reported they just arrived home and were parking at which time they were approached by a black male suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect ordered the victims out of the vehicle at which time he fled from the area with the victim’s car.

On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Patrol Officers located the stolen vehicle from the second carjacking near the 600 block of Nanticoke Place – Newark. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the suspect fled at a high rate of speed. Officers chased after the suspects and later found the vehicle unoccupied in Bear.

Following a lengthy investigation into both carjackings, Detectives and Patrol Officers were able to identify a suspect as 22-year-old Dymirr Ellerbe of New Castle. On Thursday, August 10, 2023, Officers located Ellerbe at a residence on the unit block of 2nd Avenue – New Castle. Ellerbe was then taken into custody with the assistance of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT). A search warrant was conducted at the residence where Ellerbe was located at which time two firearms were located.

Ellerbe was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged for his role in the armed carjackings, the vehicle pursuit, and the recovered firearms. Ellerbe was charged with;

Two felony counts of robbery in the first degree

Two felony counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony

Four felony counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited

Three felony counts of aggravated menacing  

One felony count of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony

One felony count of receiving stolen property

One felony count of reckless endangering first degree

One felony count of disregarding a police officer’s signal

One felony count of burglary in the third degree

One misdemeanor count of theft under $1,500.00

Ellerbe was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and bail was set at $334,000.00 cash. He was later committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution.
