13-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFTS

(Wilmington, DE 19809) Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested a 13-year-old for multiple counts of attempted vehicle theft. On Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 02:38 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of River Road in reference to a vehicle theft in progress. The caller reported that there were two male suspects attempting to break into a Kia. Officers conducted a property check of the surrounding area and located two suspects breaking into a second Kia near the unit block of S Cannon Drive. The suspects then ran at which time a responding patrol officer was able to take one of them into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as a 13-year-old male from Wilmington.

He was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters. The suspect was charged with two felony counts of attempted vehicle theft, four misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, one felony count of conspiracy in the second degree, and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. His arraignment is pending at this time. The second suspect is still outstanding.
