Three Arrested After Armed Robbery and Foot Pursuit; Handguns Recovered

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, at approximately 2:08 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to Simonds Drive and Pilgrim Road in the Simonds Gardens neighborhood for a report of individuals possibly armed with a firearm.

Upon arrival, Officers observed several individuals matching the descriptions provided. One of the individuals was observed placing an object into his waistband and abruptly changing direction after noticing the approaching police vehicle. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a pedestrian stop.

During the stop, one of the individuals, identified as 18-year-old I’yon Williams of Newark, was found to have a handgun tucked into his waistband. The firearm was later confirmed to have been reported stolen from Seaford, Delaware, in March 2025.

A second individual, 19-year-old Gregory Williams of Wilmington, was also temporarily detained but was released at the scene.

A third subject, 22-year-old Ian Berbick of New Castle, fled on foot as officers attempted to stop him. Responding officers pursued and apprehended Berbick a short distance away. He was found to be in possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number.

While Officers continued their investigation, they received information that a silver Dodge SUV had followed the group prior to police contact. The vehicle was located nearby, and Officers contacted its occupants. During that interaction, Officers discovered that one of the passengers had recently been the victim of a robbery at a business in the 3000 block of New Castle Avenue, during which their cell phone, money, and car keys were stolen.

Officers responded to the business and reviewed surveillance footage, confirming the victim’s account. The video showed I’yon Williams and Gregory Williams confronting the victim inside the store, displaying firearms, and demanding property.

I’yon Williams was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • One felony count of Robbery in the First Degree
  • One felony count of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • One felony count of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • One felony count of Conspiracy in the Second Degree
  • One felony count of Receiving a Stolen Firearm

Williams was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $135,000 cash bail.

Ian Berbick was also transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:

At the time of the stop, Gregory Williams was released from police custody due to a lack of evidence connecting him to any criminal activity. However, after further review of the business’s surveillance footage, he was positively identified as a suspect in the Robbery. A warrant for his arrest was then issued.
