SHOOTING UPDATE: ARREST MADE FOLLOWING INCIDENT IN MANOR PARK

(New Castle, DE 19720) On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at approximately 7:41 p.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the unit block of Lea Road in the Manor Park neighborhood following a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, Officers found a 37-year-old male victim inside a residence with gunshot wounds to his face. Outside, they located 31-year-old Kyle Schaal of Wilmington, who had also sustained injuries to his head and face.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit were notified and took over the investigation. During their investigation, it was determined that Kyle Schaal had arrived at the Lea Road residence intending to confront another individual but instead encountered the male victim. This led to a physical altercation in the yard, during which Kyle Schaal produced a handgun and shot the victim in the face. As the fight continued, the victim managed to gain control of the handgun and then retreated into the residence, where he remained until officers and EMS personnel arrived. Schaal’s injuries to his head and face were sustained during the physical fight and were not caused by the handgun.

Both individuals were transported by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

After being released from the hospital, Kyle Schaal was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • One felony count of attempted Murder in the first degree.
  • One felony count of Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • One felony count of endangering the welfare of a child.
  • One felony count of strangulation.
  • Two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
  • One violation of criminal trespass third degree.

Kyle Schaal was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $568,001.00 cash bail.
