SENIOR ROLL CALL CREDITED WITH SAVING HIS LIFE AFTER OVERNIGHT FALL

(Wilmington, DE. 19711) On Thursday, June 26, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a 94-year-old man from North Star Road did not respond to his scheduled Senior Roll Call phone check. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach him, including contacting his emergency contact, Senior Roll Call volunteers followed protocol and requested a welfare check.

Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the home and found the man lying on his porch. He had fallen around midnight and had been unable to get up from the concrete surface. Officers rendered aid, and the man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. He was later released.

Following the incident, the man called the New Castle County Police Department and left a heartfelt voicemail for both the officers and the Senior Roll Call volunteers, thanking everyone involved for, in his words, “saving my life.”

Since its launch in 1995, the Senior Roll Call Lifeline has played a vital role in saving lives. It often assists individuals who have experienced serious injuries or health issues that have left them unable to seek help.

The Senior Roll Call Lifeline is a complimentary service offered by the New Castle County Police, which calls its members’ homes daily to check on their well-being and ensure they do not require emergency assistance. If multiple attempts to reach someone are unsuccessful, help is dispatched to their home for a well-being check.

The program is FREE to all senior citizens or disabled residents of New Castle County.
