On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a residence for a reported kidnapping.
Upon arrival, Officers contacted the victim, who reported that earlier that day, at approximately 7:00 a.m., he was kidnapped at gunpoint outside a residence in the 200 block of Lindbergh Avenue in Wilmington. The suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Khar Abdulah of Philadelphia, PA, forced the victim into his Audi SUV. Once inside the vehicle, Abdulah bound the victim’s legs and placed him in handcuffs.
Throughout the incident, Abdulah repeatedly threatened the victim and his family, demanding money. For fear of their safety, the victim contacted multiple family members to collect money, which was ultimately handed over to Abdulah. Abdulah also forced the victim to transfer ownership of his Acura sedan into Abdulah’s name.
The victim was later released by Abdulah and immediately called 911 to report the incident.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit were notified and assumed control of the investigation.
While investigating this incident, Detectives also continued their work on a burglary that occurred earlier on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in the unit block of Granbury Drive, New Castle. During the burglary, a suspect dressed in an Amazon vest forcibly entered the victim’s home and stole property. It is important to note that he was not an Amazon employee.
Detectives later identified Khar Abdulah as the suspect in both cases.
Khar Abdulah was also wanted by the New Castle County Police Department in connection with a November 2024 incident, during which he was identified as a suspect in a drug investigation on Commonwealth Boulevard in the Overlook Colony neighborhood of Claymont. During that incident, Abdulah, who was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, fled from Officers during a traffic stop. Investigating officers later obtained a warrant for his arrest, but attempts to locate him at that time were unsuccessful.
On May 29, 2025, the Delaware State Police opened an investigation following a late-reported attempted robbery at the PNC Bank, located in the 1700 block of Marsh Road. Working collaboratively, Detectives from both agencies identified Khar Abdulah as the suspect in both cases.
With assistance from the Philadelphia Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Task Force, and the FBI Safe Streets Violent Crime Task Force, Abdulah was arrested in Philadelphia on July 2, 2025, and extradited to Delaware on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
