(Claymont, DE 19703) On Thursday, August 14, 2025, at approximately 9:07 a.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a residence in the unit block of Balfour Avenue in the Knollwood community for a welfare check. Upon entering the residence, Officers discovered a deceased individual under circumstances that appeared suspicious.

Detectives from the Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit, Major Crimes Squad, and Evidence Detection Squad were notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

Working in coordination with the Delaware Office of the Medical Examiner, the victim, who was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper extremity, was later identified as 53-year-old Clifton Bailey of Claymont, DE. Following an investigation, the death has been officially ruled a homicide.
