In August 2026, detectives assigned to the New Castle County Division of Police Violent Crime Interdiction Team initiated an investigation into 31-year-old Marquise Byrd of Wilmington, who was suspected of distributing narcotics throughout New Castle County.
As a result of the investigation, detectives located Byrd on Thursday, August 21, 2026, in the area of 6th Street and Washington Street in the City of Wilmington. As detectives attempted to contact Byrd, he ran away and, while running, discarded narcotics he was carrying. Detectives quickly apprehended Byrd with assistance from other detectives in the area.
Detectives then recovered the plastic bag Byrd discarded while running, which contained approximately 22 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 3.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and 1.2 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, along with other drug-related paraphernalia.
Byrd was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:
- Two felony counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 2
- Two felony counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
- Two misdemeanor counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance
- One misdemeanor count of Resisting Arrest
- One misdemeanor count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Marquise Byrd was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $47,600 secured bail.
