DETECTIVES ARREST SUSPECT IN SURRATTE PARK HIT-AND-RUN

(New Castle, DE 19720) On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at approximately 2:03 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to Surratte Park, located in the 400 block of Bethune Drive in the Dunleith community, for a report of an accident involving a pedestrian who had been struck.

Upon arrival, officers located a 51-year-old male victim who had been struck by a vehicle. The victim sustained injuries to his lower extremities and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The victim was later released from the hospital.

Due to the circumstances of the incident, detectives assigned to the Division’s Traffic Services Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Through their investigation, detectives identified the vehicle involved as a Honda Accord operated by 41-year-old Eubanks White of Wilmington, Delaware.

Detectives discovered that White drove the Honda Accord onto the basketball court at Surratte Park. At that time, White made a U-turn as the victim was walking from the fenced-in area surrounding the pool onto the basketball court. White then accelerated toward the victim and struck him with the vehicle before driving onto a sidewalk and fleeing the area.

As the investigation continued, detectives assigned to the Division’s Fugitive Apprehension and Surveillance Team were tasked with locating White.

On Friday, August 21, 2026, detectives located White at a hotel in Wilmington. White was taken into custody without incident and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with:

  • One felony count of Assault in the Second Degree
  • One misdemeanor count of Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Injury

Eubanks White was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $10,100 cash bail.
