K9 FiasKo Assists with Locating a Missing 6-Year-Old

(Wilmington, DE 19803) On Tuesday, August 27, 2026, at approximately 6:48 p.m., patrol officers, along with a K9 Officer from the New Castle County Division of Police, responded to Brandywine Creek State Park to assist several other agencies in the search for a missing, nonverbal, 6-year-old child with special needs.

Once on scene, M/Cpl DiGati and her K9 partner, FiasKo, were taken to an area of the woods believed to be a possible last known location of the missing child. FiasKo was provided with a known scent from the child and immediately acquired the scent and began tracking along a trail that led M/Cpl. DiGati deeper into a secluded wooded area. As FiasKo continued tracking, the search team heard a noise in the area. A member of the search team followed the sound and located the missing 6-year-old child in a heavily wooded, brush-covered area directly adjacent to a pond.

The child was found barefoot, muddy, and wet, but was fortunately in good health and was safely reunited with his family.
