POLICE INVESTIGATE DROWNING IN THE ESTATES AT RED LION

(Bear, De 19701) On June 5, 2024, at 5:35 p.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a report of a missing 7-year-old in the 100 block of Gabriel Drive. Information was received indicating that the child was recently observed in the vicinity of the retention pond within the neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers and emergency medical personnel began searching the pond, surrounding woods, and nearby areas. During the search, a member of the Delaware City Fire Company found the child submerged in water, removed him, and started resuscitative efforts. The 7-year-old was immediately taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit were notified and have taken over the investigation, which is still active and ongoing. POLICE ACTIVITY IN ESTATES OF RED LION

While there will be an increased police presence, there’s no risk to the public. Please consider using different routes and avoiding the area. We will provide updates when they become available.

15-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY ON JACK MARKELL TRAIL

(New Castle, DE 19720)-On Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:47 a.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the Jack Markell Trail near Manor Park for an attempted robbery.

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the 76-year-old victim, who reported that while he was riding his bicycle, a juvenile ran toward him and demanded his bicycle. The victim managed to ride away to a safe location and then called the police, and provided a description of the suspect. Officers from the Mobile Enforcement Team, who were already in the area, quickly located a suspect matching the victim’s description and detained him pending further investigation.

The 15-year-old male was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • One felony count of attempt to commit robbery in second degree.

The 15-year-old was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on his own recognizance.
