INVESTIGATION UPDATE: 14-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY AT MILLERS GUN CENTER

(Wilmington, DE 19802) On Monday, May 27, 2024, The New Castle County Division of Police responded to a burglary at Millers Gun Center located on W. Jackson Avenue in New Castle DE., which resulted in the theft of numerous firearms. Through investigative measures, Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit were able to identify a 14-year-old male from Wilmington as the suspect. Subsequently, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Officers from the New Castle County Mobile Enforcement Team located the juvenile in a vehicle and took him into custody without incident.

The 14-year-old male was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with the following crimes:

• Sixteen felony counts of theft of a firearm.

• Two felony counts of burglary third degree.

• One felony count of possession of a deadly weapon by a person under the age of 18.

• One felony count of possession of ammunition by a person under the age of 18.

• One felony count of theft of a motor vehicle.

• Two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief less than $5000.

• One misdemeanor count of theft under $1500.

The 14-year-old male was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to New Castle County Detention Center after failing to pay $79,000 cash bail.

After the arrest, it was discovered that the 14-year-old male was also connected to multiple incidents within the Delaware State Police’s jurisdiction. Detectives from the Delaware State Police were notified, and they effectively resolved several significant cases as a result.

This is still an active investigation, and the investigation is still ongoing.

POLICE APPREHEND TWO SUSPECTS AFTER PURSUIT WITH A STOLEN CAR.

(Newark, 19702) On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the New Castle County Division of Police arrested 18-year-old Christian Broaddus of Wilmington and a 17-year-old male, also from Wilmington, following a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen car.

While conducting proactive patrol, Officers from the Safe Streets Task Force observed a white Ford Escape committing a traffic violation on Old Baltimore Pike, when they discovered the car had been reported stolen from Smyrna, DE, on May 5th. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle began driving erratically, striking two parked cars in the area. The pursuit ended when the stolen car collided with a tree while the driver attempted to evade multiple marked police cars in the Cedarwood neighborhood. Both the driver, Christian Broaddus, and the 17-year-old passenger attempted to run away from the stolen car but were quickly apprehended by assisting officers. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9mm handgun.

Christian Broaddus was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • One felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
  • One felony count of reckless endanger first degree.
  • One felony count of receiving stolen property.
  • One felony count of disregarding a police officer’s signal.
  • One misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.
  • One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
  • One misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a property collision accident.
  • One misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
  • One violation of failure to stop at a red light.
  • One violation of unreasonable speed.
  • One violation of driving on the wrong side of the road.

Christian Broaddus was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $31,500.00, cash bail.

The 17-year-old male was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with the following crime:

  • One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

The 17-year-old male was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Juvenile Detention Center after failing to pay $1,000 secure bail

POLICE INVESTIGATE PEDESTRIAN HIT AND RUN

(Wilmington, DE 19804) On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 3:45 p.m., patrol officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the 1600 block of Telegraph Road for a pedestrian struck by a car, which then fled. Officers arrived in the area and located a 44-year-old female suffering from injuries after being hit by a car.  The female was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Traffic Services Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the striking vehicle is possibly a navy/midnight blue or black, newer model SUV, with some reports being it may be a Honda or Hyundai.
