Police Investigate Shots Fired After Responding To A Check On The Welfare

(Newark, Del.-19711) Today (November 21) at approximately 1:00 p.m., uniform patrol officers were dispatched to the unit block of Lawrence Ave in the community of Peikin Park for a check on the welfare of a subject who had made statements that caused a concern for his welfare.

As officers arrived on scene, gun shots could be heard from inside the residence.  Out of an abundance of caution for area residents and officers, a perimeter was established as nearby residence were instructed to shelter in place or evacuate.

Officers on scene were able to make contact with the occupants of the residence in question taking one male subject into custody without incident. No officers were injured.

The subject was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
