(Wilmington, DE 19803) Last Wednesday (Feb 3), officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Hearn Road, in the community of Fairfax for the report of Criminal Mischief. When the officers arrived, they interviewed the 36-year-old victim who reported that in the early morning hours (approximately 4:00 a.m.) she heard a crashing noise. She reported that she looked outside and saw nothing, so she went back to sleep. At 6:00 a.m. she woke to find her Adirondack chair had been smashed. When she reviewed a neighbor’s video surveillance, she saw two male subjects, one with a baseball bat, approach her house and strike her chair. Both subjects then drove off in a blue minivan.
Patrol officers received other reports throughout the day of community members in Fairfax waking up to find that their snowman had been smashed. The houses that were able to, supplied video surveillance footage. The additional footage also showed the same two male subjects run up to a snow man and strike it multiple times with a baseball bat.
The officers were then able to identify the suspects in the video as 19-year-old Andrew Smith and 18-year-old Calvin Donohue.
Today (Feb 10) both suspects were taken into custody and charged each with one count of Criminal Mischief and one count of misdemeanor Conspiracy 3rd degree. Both were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on their own recognizance.
