(Bear, DE 19701) Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 47-year-old Peter Schiavo of Newark with fifth-offense DUI. On Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 09:47 a.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Songsmith Drive and Bear Christiana Road in reference to a car accident involving a black Infinity.
While responding to the crash location Officers were aware that the same vehicle had been involved in two hit-and-run accidents earlier that morning near the area of Old Capital Trail and Newport Road. Officers arrived at the scene of the Bear accident and identified the driver of the Infinity as 47-year-old Peter Schiavo of Newark.
Through investigation, Officers determined that Schiavo was under the influence of an illicit substance. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released. He was then transported to New Castle County Police headquarters. Officers also discovered that Schiavo had an active felony warrant for violating a domestic violence no-contact order.
In reference to the crash at Songsmith and Bear Christiana Road Schiavo was charged with:
One felony count of 5th offense DUI
One misdemeanor count of driving while suspended or revoked.
In reference to the hit-and-run crashes near Newport Road and Old Capitol Trail Schiavo was charged with:
Two misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of a property collision accident.
Two misdemeanor counts of driving while suspended or revoked.
Two counts of failure to report a collision to a police agency.
Peter Schiavo was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11. For the accident investigations, bail was set at $2,102.00. For the felony violation of the no-contact order, bail was set at $1,000.00 unsecured. Schiavo was later committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution.
