(Newark, DE 19713)-On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., An Officer from the New Castle County Division of Police was on patrol around Marrows Road, when the Officer observed a traffic violation on a white Mazda. The Officer then attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop when the Mazda subsequently fled and committed numerous traffic violations to evade the Officer.
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old John Eoppolo of Newark, DE, then parked his vehicle on Shue Drive and fled on foot. The Officer then located John Eoppolo in a wooded area when John Eoppolo continued to resist arrest. After a struggle, John Eoppolo was then placed in custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was treated and released. The New Castle County Officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was treated and released.
John Eoppolo was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with the following crimes:
- One felony count of Assault 2nd degree injuring a Law Enforcement Officer.
- One felony count of resisting arrest.
- One felony count of disregarding a Police Officer signal.
- One felony count of conspiracy second-degree.
- Two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance.
- One misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Multiple traffic citations including driving with a suspended license, aggressive driving, careless driving, no insurance in possession, expired registration, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to remain in a signal lane, and speeding in a residential district.
John Eoppolo was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was released on $7,700.00 unsecured bond.
