17-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED ROBBERY IN FAIRVIEW FARM

(Middletown, DE 19709) On Tuesday, March 25, 2024, at 4:20 p.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the unit block of Chancellorsville Circle in the Villages at Fairview Farms neighborhood for a reported robbery.

Upon arrival, Officers found several individuals restraining a person on the ground. The individual, later identified as a 17-year-old male from Middletown, was immediately taken into custody for further investigation.

Through their investigation, Officers learned that the victims and another occupant had arrived at Chancellorsville Circle to sell a vehicle to the suspect. While inside the vehicle with two other occupants, the owner allowed the 17-year-old male to take it for a test drive in the neighborhood. During the drive, the 17-year-old male pulled over, brandished a handgun, and ordered the owner and occupants to exit the vehicle. As they were exiting, a struggle ensued between the vehicle owner and the suspect, with the other occupants assisting in restraining him until the police arrived. The weapon was later determined to be a BB gun.

The 17-year-old male was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • Two felony counts of aggravated menacing.
  • One felony count of attempted robbery in the first degree.

The 17-year-old male was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center after failing to post $12,000 secured bail.
