POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN MIDWAY PLAZA APARTMENTS STABBING

(Wilmington, DE 19808) Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 43-year-old Colette Hayes of Wilmington following a stabbing. On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at approximately 12:28 a.m. Patrol Officers were dispatched to Midway Plaza Apartments in reference to a stabbing in progress. Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim and suspect were no longer on the scene. Investigation revealed that Colette Hayes contacted 911, stating she stabbed a male acquaintance following a dispute and was transporting him to the hospital.

Officers responded to Christiana Hospital Emergency Room at which time they located Colette Hayes and a 39-year-old male victim who sustained a stab wound to his upper body. The victim remains at the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

Colette Hayes was detained and transported back to NCCPD headquarters. Detectives responded to the hospital and to the original crime scene and assumed the investigation. Following further investigation and multiple search warrants, Colette Hayes was charged with one felony count of assault in the first degree and one felony count of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

She was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $40,000.00 secured bail.
