Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Suspect Vehicle In Theft Investigation

New Castle County Police are investigating a theft that occurred in the Carousel Park and Equestrian Center.

(Wilmington, Del.-19808) During the months of January and February, the Equestrian Director for the New Castle County Police Mounted Patrol Unit learned over 700 bags of cedar wood shavings went missing from outside the horse barn which is located within Carousel Park. The wood shavings are used for the horses bedding. New Castle County Patrol officers were dispatched to investigate the theft.

Police were able to obtain surveillance video that captured a suspect vehicle driving in the parkland within the time frame of when the theft occurred. Domestic Incident With A Weapon, Police Arrest One

New Castle County Police have arrested 46 year-old Gregory Johnson following a domestic incident in the community of Cherokee Woods.

(Newark, Del.-19713) Yesterday (April 14) at 9:42 a.m., New Castle County Patrol Officers were dispatched to the unit block of East Cherokee Dr after a 911 call to police was made for an unknown problem. Police learned that Gregory Johnson entered the residence armed with a weapon. Inside the residence was a 33 year-old woman, 65 year-old man and a 2 year-old toddler. Gregory Johnson made threatening statements while inside the home and then assaulted the 33 year-old woman. During a struggle over the weapon between Gregory Johnson, the 33 year-old woman and the 65 year-old man, the gun was fired-no one was struck. The 65 year-old man sustained an injury to his hand as a result of this incident. The 2 year-old was not injured.

Gregory Johnson was taken into custody at the scene by responding officers.

The 33 year-old woman and 65 year-old man were transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Gregory Johnson was charged with 4 counts of felony reckless endangering first, home invasion, possession of a destructive weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, second degree assault, 3 counts of aggravated menacing, strangulation, 2 counts of terroristic threatening, 8 counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, misdemeanor assault, and terroristic threatening. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $394,000.00 secured bond and issued a no contact order.

Szczerba Memorial Park a makeover, by installing playground equipment featuring accessories such as black and gold police cruisers and the New Castle County Police shield. Children will have fun playing police officer and residents can reflect on a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his community.
